Offering Peace and Comfort In the Devon Countryside
"Need fresh air with peace and quiet?"
"Need to get away from it all?"
Rockhaye Cottage is ideally situated for the Two Moors Way walker as it offers the opportunity of a good Bed & Breakfast in idyllic surroundings, whilst at the same time allowing you easy access back onto the path the following morning.
As you can see on the enclosed ordnance survey map (See Below) the Two Moors Way footpath is marked by a green dotted line regularly interspaced with green diamond shapes. It passes through the centre of the village of Witheridge which is located about midway on this long distance coast to coast walk.
Rockhaye Cottage B&B underlined in red with radiating red rings on the enclosed 1:25000 scale map (Grid Ref: SS800152) is located 500 metres to the North West of Witheridge alongside the Little Dart River.
When you recommence your walk you have two choices depending on whether you want to strictly say you have walked the entire Two Moors Way! One is to retrace your steps back up the hill into the village to rejoin the footpath, the other more pragmatic and much nicer route would be to rejoin the Two Moors Way by walking along the public footpath that runs alongside the Little Dart River from Witheridge Mill near Rockhaye NNE to Yeo Copse (See Map). If you are a 'purist' and insist on starting your walk from the village then if you wish we will drive you up the rather steep hill!
On entering the Witheridge Square, you will need to turn left heading North West on the main road to walk past St.John's Church and take the first unmarked road on the right. Descend the hill for 400 metres until reaching two cottages on the right just prior to a bridge that goes over the Little Dart River. Rockhaye, a thatched cottage will be seen on the Northern bank of the river with access by a concrete path through double wooden gates to the right of the house sign.
On reaching Grid Reference SS808153 the junction of a small stream with the Little Dart River you will go over a wooden bridge, turn right and almost immediately through a small wooden gate to gain access to Yeo Copse. Ignore the Two Moors Way sign post which indicates a Southerly direction up hill towards Witheridge. Continue heading WSW, either alongside the river or by using the public footpath that goes through the woods before eventually emerging by Witheridge Mill onto a yellow minor road that runs North from Witheridge. Turn right and within 25 metres on Mill Bridge you will see Rockhaye, a thatched cottage on the Northern side of the Little Dart River approached by a concrete path through double wooden gates to the right of the house sign.
