The Little Dart River flows East to West in a picturesque valley 500 metres to the North of Witheridge, merging with the River Taw and eventually into the Bristol Channel.
Rockhaye B&B is ideally situated for fly fishing offering access to two beats, Essebeare & Witheridge Mill Bridge (See page 18 & 19 in the West Country Angling Passport) on the Little Dart River within 75 metres ..... effectively at the bottom of our front garden!
This view of Rockhaye Cottage B&B shows its closeness to the Little Dart River which is partially obscured within the tree line at the bottom of the photograph.

Westcountry Angling Passport gives Witheridge Mill beat, which is directly in front of Rockhaye, a 4* Access rating and a 3* Fishability rating with ..... "a lovely short stretch of river with riffles and several good pools. Mostly trout water, in the 6-10" range, with the odd larger one to 15" (an exceptional fish of 2.5lbs was caught in 2001). Broad Pit and Corner Pit pools offer the best chance for salmon and sea trout given adequate water. An easy beat to fish that's best in April, May, June, and September although spates in August can provide good chance for Pearl. Average catch 2+ trout / rod to 10" in 2009".
This photograph is taken at the far end of the Witheridge Mill beat looking East towards Rockhaye which can just be seen as a pink outline to the left middle of the picture.
The river has abundant wild life along its banks with otter, kingfisher and heron being seen. Dogs are allowed under close control. It is also a superb place for a picnic.
